FAQ: Cross-Listed Courses in SPOT
How do cross-listed courses work in SPOT?
In Banner, there is a concept of a HOME department. This HOME ultimately drives the SPOT system. The HOME is decided between the cross-listing departments, and may have been decided when the course was originally proposed. For long-standing courses, the HOME was decided in conjunction with the departments and the registrar's office over the past few years.
The HOME department has two main impacts on the SPOT system:
- It determines which department or college specific questions will be asked for the course.
- It determines which department will see the SPOT results in the data warehouse.
For cross-listed courses, it is very important to work with the other department and agree upon what makes the most sense. Regardless of the HOME, the instructors for the courses will still get reports for the courses they taught.
